DuckDuckGo switching Maps

Zdnet reported yesterday that search engine DuckDuckGo is switching their mapping solution.

The search engine's current mapping solution, crowd sourced OpenStreetMap, will be replaced by Apple.

The company has stated in a blog post: "For local searches, where your approximate location information is sent by your browser to us, we discard it immediately after use". Your privacy continues to be protected!

Our opinion

We feel bad for OpenStreetMap as they are loosing a big customer. In general our team approves of the development, though, as the additional use of Apple Maps by Windows and linux users of the DuckDuckGo search engine will benefit iOS and MacOS users.

It would seem that the large investment in Apple Maps is really paying off.
